This gorgeous purse is an example of the types of purses produced in the mid 19th century throughout Germany and the Netherlands. They are quite different from the highly detailed purses of the late 19th to early 20th centuries. This example has a frame attached to it that is far later in date than what would have originally been attached to the purse. In addition, this purse would have had a short, and thick permanent twist fringe...all in the same color.

Obtaining frames for purses of this period is extremely difficult, as they are rare and often quite expensive. The client and I agreed on an 800 silver frame that was made in 1870. Though the frame is not exact in period, it is close enough to work with the design and shape of the purse. I completed it with the all blue permanent twist fringe that it would have originally had.
