I have expanded my restoration services to include this type of repair, as many of my clients have sent me purses with beautiful but damaged celluloid frames. The clients had been content to accept the damage since there are no real "celluloid" restorers. After experimenting on my own damaged pieces, I was able to then repair those of my clients.
The following pages are dedicated to celluloid repair and offer before and after examples of some of the items I have repaired. Please bear in mind that the repairs depend greatly on the location of the damage as well as the type of plastic used. Opaque pieces are far more easy to repair than those with a transluscent look similar to tortoiseshell. Many of these are actually made of bakelite or lucite. I can create entire missing overclasps, broken pieces, and repair cracks. In some cases I can repair broken hinges depending on the severity of the break and construction of the original hinge.
