Before.....
This charming early reticule belongs to one of my dearest friends. We affectionately named the purse "Goose Girl" and have referred to her as such ever since. This darling reticule dates to around 1870-1880 and is German in origin. The subject matter is wonderful, depicting a young girl in her durndel dress complete with apron. She is running across a field chasing a flock of geese with a stick, with a small village scene in the background. The purse was actually in great condition for its age, with only a couple holes and a missing tassel.
After......
The owner decided, after much consideration, to go ahead and add a frame so that she could display the purse with her others. Though the jewled frame she chose is much later than the actual purse, it ended up being the perfect choice with complementing colors. The largest hole in the beadwork was in the area of the little girls back foot and lower dress. The hole had been crudely stitched and ended up much larger once removing the stitches. The finishing touches were a new beaded ball tassel and a liner of vintage cream silk and purse trim.
