Beaded Purse Repair
This beautiful loom-beaded purse panel was sent to me recently by one of my clients. Back in the 20's and 30's, the peacock was a very popular subject for many types of purses, especially beaded ones. In this case, the creator never finished the purse, having completed only one panel. My client asked me to make a purse with the panel that would resemble what it would have looked like had it been completed back in its day!
Here is the finished purse! The client provided a fabulous jeweled frame that was just meant to go with this purse.
For the back panel, I used a luscious piece of antique burgundy velvet.
The fringe is done in the traditional lattice and loop style found on many of the loomed peacock purses. The edges have been finished with lengthwise twists of matching white vintage beads.
The final touch was a creamy ivory satin lining. There was not enough room in the channel of the frame to accomodate floral purse trim, so I stitched the liner in with vintage pale green seed beads.
