Beaded Purse Repair
Here is a beautiful fringe done with lattice work and twisted loop. This was actually a fringe repair. The two side sections had completely fallen off, so I re-beaded them. This is a very time consuming fringe due to the fact that it must be done in two stages; first the lattice work and then the twisted loop fringing on the ends. This fringe represents about 8 hours of work.
This is a very early purse from around the mid 19th century. Many of the purses of this period had very short fringes, and customarily of all one color. The style was done in permanent twist loops, and always very short in comparison to the purse.
Be sure to click on the photo to view this purse in its entirety. It has the most unusual subject matter. It appears to be a school teacher with a young student in tow...of course could be a mother too! The client wanted to spoil this purse with a lush, twisted loop fringe. I chose a progression of colors similar to the colors in the body of the bag. This purse was a very loose knit, so you could see more of the thread surrounding the beads than you would normally see. This created a nice contrast between the fringe and the purse body. This fringe represents 12 hours of work.
